30 Killed And 10 Injured In Accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Thirty people have reportedly died after an auto accident on
the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday night.
Spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Bisi Kazeem,
confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abuja on Friday.
Kazeem said the accident occurred at about 8pm at Km 95
around the Elebolo Quary Area on the Ibadan axis of the
road.

He disclosed that 10 other persons were injured in the crash
involving 40 persons and two Mazda buses.

“The crash occurred at a construction
site, and it resulted from route and
speed violations.
“This has further underscored the
Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi’s
advice to motorists to avoid night
journeys, be careful around
construction sites and drive within
approved speed limits,” he said.

Kazeem said rescue operations by the FRSC officials, who
arrived at the scene minutes after the incident, ended at
2:42am on Friday.
He disclosed that the corpses were deposited at Adeoyo
Yemetu Hospital mortuary, Ibadan.

Heavy Gunshots Around Biafra Leader Nnamdi Kanu ’ s House

Residents of the Afaraukwu area of Abia
State capital, Umuahia, are scampering
for safety following heavy gunshots
around the home of Nnamdi Kanu,
leader of the Indigenous People of
Biafra (IPOB).
“The heavy gunshots were heard about 6pm on Thursday,” News
Express was informed.
Eye witnesses say it was unclear who was behind the shooting.
It is also not known if Nnamdi Kanu is at home.
The shooting came shortly after Abia State Governor, Dr.
Okezie Ikpeazu, announced that soldiers would be withdrawn
from the streets of Umuahia and the commercial hub Aba on
Friday to reduce tension and the suffering of the people.
Briefing the press on the security situation in the state, Ikpeazu
said he will be meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari to
discuss the situation in Abia.
He warned against street protests by any group.

Zuffon Noimot on Thursday, September
14 emerged as the 17th one day
governor of Lagos state and paid a
courtesy visit to Akinwunmi Ambode,
the real state governor.
Noimot, a student of Awodi Ora Senior Secondary School was
the winner of the 2017 spelling bee competition in that took
place in June 2017.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Ambode said: ”This is a
significant day for Lagos state and it also signals what the
future actually holds for Lagos state in which we have seated
here, two female strong members of the new state executive
council and we have a female governor and a female deputy
governor.
‘It is also telling us a story about what the future of Lagos is
all about that one day we would find seated here, not just a
day governor, but for a period or tenure of four years, there
would be a female governor in this state.
”We’ve had female deputy governors in this state; it also says
something that these younger ones are telling our women in
Lagos to rise up and actually take their position”.

The Police Command in Nasarawa State
has arrested a 20-year-old housewife,
Aisha Isah, for allegedly throwing into a
well her two stepdaughters, Zainab 4,
and Baaba 2, over a disagreement with
her co-wife.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Kennedy Idirisu,
said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on
Thursday in Lafia.
Mr. Idirisu said that the suspect was arrested from Yelwan-
Bassa village in Kokona Local Government Area following a
report of the incident.
He said the suspect had confessed to the crime and expressed
remorse over her action.
He said an investigation revealed that Aisha, who is the second
wife of Alhaji Isah, was always at loggerhead with the first
wife, Maimuna, and that all efforts by their husband to settle
their differences were unsuccessful.
The spokesperson said Aisha claimed that the first wife was
always instigating her children not to run errands for her, a
development that infuriated her since she had no child of her
own.
That she had given birth to a baby girl in 2016, but the baby
died after six months.He said Aisha had thrown baby Baaba
into the well in April but since no one saw her, the family
believed the baby accidentally fell into the well and died.
On August 26, the police spokesperson said, Aisha raised alarm
that another child, Zainab, had fallen into the well and the
husband dashed into the well to rescue the baby.
He said the husband brought out the baby dead with her hands
tied, which drew suspicion from the family and villagers leading
to the arrest of Aisha. According to him, Aisha later confessed
to the crime and also accepted responsibility for the death of
baby Baaba in April.
He said the suspect would be prosecuted as soon as an
investigation into the matter was concluded.

want to hear this good news: Hurray!
ASUU has called off the strike.
Especially the final year students.
We hear of an ASUU meeting every Friday night but nothing
positive comes out of it, the strike still continues.
Buhari came back, they have not canceled it, Osinbajo will lead
FG’s delegation, still yet nothing.
However, it seems these lecturers just wants us to have a fun
time with this strike
I know would be mad at me for this article. But can’t you
see that there are just some reasons that are hidden from the
public.
Everyone has a skeleton, difference is where do you keep your
skeleton. See, the last indefinite strike was 6months. So, this
one promises to be bigger, better and more longer, trust me.
However, there might be reasons why ASUU hasn’t called off
the strike yet apart from the 2013 memorandum reasons they
gave.
These might be the reasons;
1. ASUU wants you to hustle and make
money:
If you are like me who hates collecting pocket money and wants
to be self-reliant, Voila! This ASUU strike is for us. Time to
take advantage. That’s how I saw one big girl in church
collecting “Owo offering”(offering money) in church yesterday.
Damn! And you call yourself “slay mama??”
See, this strike is a blessing in disguise for real-time hustlers.
Hustlers don’t sleep when others are sleeping. They work
throughout the night, they take a nap in the morning and wake
up later to continue their hustle.
Before you start thinking about “yahoo”, there are a lot of
jobs you can do.
ASUU wants the students to feel the pain of the working class,
whether it’s a factory job, sales girl, nanny. Just go and do
one. You can also work at the restaurant where you can help
them in washing plates. At least you’ll earn money.
2. ASUU what’s you to watch the 2018
World Cup at home:
So, I made the calculation, If ASUU cancels the strike by
December/January. We would resume in January and finish the
session by May. Wow, good news coupled with the 3 Months
break.
The World Cup runs from June to July. And since I love to
watch the World Cup with the whole fam, ASUU has made it
easier for me. It won’t be nice having exams on the day
Nigeria would be playing one big country, let’s say Brazil .
Some people will abandon their exams to watch that match.
Trust me.
3. ASUU wants students to learn a new
skill
A lot of students after every 2nd semester spend at least 3
months for the holiday. They do nothing. They stay at home.
Watch TV series, attend Owambe parties. ASUU knows. ASUU
also acknowledges that majority of the current crop of
graduates are unemployed. Still, students don’t want to be
self-reliant.
Every quarter the NBS(Nigerian Bureau of Statistics) release a
report of the economy, the inflation rate and the unemployment
rate. The unemployment rate keeps increasing majorly due to
company downsizing their workforce or SMEs folding up.
The Management students know this. But, most of them will
still post “slay” photos on IG, go to clubs/elegushi Beach on
Friday, Owambe parties on Saturday.
Peeps, this is the time to be productive. I, especially have
undertaken two online digital marketing courses with certificates
awarded. If you can’t learn a skill(maybe due to cost of
training), go online, there are free courses to learn, don’t
waste time!
4. ASUU wants you to learn from your
parents
This is for boys and girls who oversalt the food they give us
as cooler ministry. Use your data to watch some tutorial
videos. Learn how to cook sumptuous meals not just the regular.
Have you heard of fritata. Rack up knowledge during this
Strike, learn how to fix devices and appliances especially when
they get spoilt. And also for most of you who don’t like to
run errands for your parents, this is pay back time. ASUU is
trying to humble most of you and since you know God resist
the proud and give grace to the humble you better succumb.
5. ASUU wants you to Gain More
Experience Through Internship
Students at home, it’s not until you’re in 300L/400L or your
course doesn’t qualifies you for internship? Well, this ASUU
strike is a window of opportunity for you to gain more
experience by applying for internship at any firm. Just tell them
“I’m Johnny Bravo, a student of….seeking for internship at…”
Students at least if it is at IyaRisikat Boutique where you
would be a sales girl, please go and do it. It would add to
your CV.

Yesterday,The Economic and Financial Crime Commission,Lagos
zonal office, arrested eight suspected Internet fraudsters. The
suspects are Samsonre: Olujobi, 28 (a.k.a Mau Rice, Melinda
Mcginnis); Abraham Sunday ( a.k.a. Raymond Dodson) 32;
Gabriel Ayo ( a.k.a. Robert Mcintosh, Donald Great) 25.
Others are Omotayo Raphael (a.k.a. Michael Black) 25; Semiu
Sunday Olawale (a.k.a. J. Cabtree) 23; Dafe Onosigho
(a.k.a. Johna Kurz ) 27; Ewiolo Elvis (a.k.a. Morgan
Moore), 32 and Usiaka Louis (a. k.a. Anthony Parker, David
Smart, Alfred Norman) 22.
They were arrested following intelligence report about their
alleged involvement in some criminal activities.
The suspects who were arrested around the Egbeda and
Agege areas of the state, were said to have defrauded their
victims whom they connected with on some online dating sites,
of huge sums of money in different currencies posing as
Americans.
Evidence gotten from their emails contain account usernames
and passwords of their victims who are mainly Americans.
The scammers who are experts at stealing domain names of
persons and organizations also use their victims as money
moles to transfer monies between countries.

Robbers Break Into Jumia Store In Port Harcourt And Run Away With Goods

Unknown robbers have reportedly broken into a Jumia store at
Alakahia, in Portharcourt, the Rivers State capital, and made
away with all the goods in the store.
The robbers gained entry into the store which is located adjacent
the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital through the
roof.
According to a reported eyewitness statement, the robbers broke
the ceiling in the toilet from where they gained access to the

Hausa Men Take Hides In A Police Station After Clash With IPOB In Rivers (Photo)

Some Hausa indigenes were spotted taking cover at Umuebulu
police station in Rivers state, according to Victor Ezeanochie
who shared the below photo. This happened after some members
of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Tuesday
allegedly clashed with the Hausa community in Oyibo Local
Government Area of Rivers.
The incident reportedly started when the suspected members of
IPOB gathered at Timber Junction awaiting other members to
join a procession to Aba, Abia. Thereafter, soldiers rounded up
the IPOB members using force to disperse the gathering and
leaving many IPOB members injured.
A deadly confrontation immediately ensued between IPOB
members and soldiers and ultimately led to some members

House User Dies In Lagos As Candle Fire Burns Down Two- Storey Building ( Photos)

A tenant has been reported dead after
he was burnt to death yesterday..
According to reports, a landlord’s son was injured during a
morning inferno, which gutted a house at the Somolu area of
Lagos State.
The fire, which ravaged a storey-building, started about 1a.m.
from the first floor, where the landlord’s son’s apartment is
located.
The landlord’s son, Abiola, was said to have lit a candle and
fell asleep. Unfortunately, the candle fell on the rug in his
apartment.
The rug caught fire which spread to other apartments.
The tenant, identified simply as Al-Wajud, was said to be drunk
before going to bed and thus, was deep in his sleep when the
fire started. He died before he could be rushed to the hospital.
The incident, which happened at House 4, Akinrinlo Street, threw
occupants and members of the community into mourning.
One of the victims, who identified
himself simply as Adebolawe, said;
“We were sleeping about
1a.m. when we heard a loud
sound from the roof of the
building. “Immediately we
heard the sound, every
tenant in the house rushed
out only to see flame on the
roof of the building.
We started running around,
looking for water to put out
the fire. While we were
looking for water, my wife
was struggling to rescue the
children and to savage some
of our property.
Unfortunately we couldn’t
bring out anything.
Fire consumed everything.”
Another Victim Mr. Akeem Ismaila, said;
The fire destroyed all I have
laboured for in life. It was a
terrible situation; right now,
I don’t know where to start
from.
Even my wife’s money, which
she was supposed to use to
stock her shop, was burnt to
ashes. My children wouldn’t
be able to go to school as
their uniform and school
materials were all burnt.
“Government should come to
our aid. This is not the first
time the building would go up
in flames; two years ago, the
building caught fire but was
later rebuilt.
This is another fire.”
Firefighters were said to have arrived the scene about 3a.m.,
after the fire had burnt down the whole building.

Some phone brands work better on the right side while others
on the left side. So in case you are falling to get a good
signal you might want to switch over.
For example:
HTC Desire performs better on the right side for all band.
iPhones depend on the frequencies for better performance same
goes for many phone brands like Sony, Samsung, Xiaomi and
Nexus.
Note: if you phone is less than 10% then the phone receives
maximum radiation, you should be careful about the amount of
radiation you absorb to reduce the risk of having health
complications, so its better to charge it up or switch to another
battery.

Apple Inc has rolled out its much-
anticipated iPhone X, but it came with a
hiccup on Tuesday.
The glass and stainless steel device with an edge-to-edge display
that Chief Executive Tim Cook called “the biggest leap forward
since the original iPhone,” created an embarrassing moment for
the company when one of the features, the face ID, refused to
work.
This happened when Apple Senior Vice President Craig Federighi,
tried to unlock the phone with his face, during the on-stage
presentation.
But the hitch was only temporary as the device unlocked on the
second attempt.
The launch contained few surprises, with leaked details on the
phone and other products including an updated Apple Watch
proving largely accurate.
The iPhone X’s $999 price still raised eyebrows, and its Nov.
3 ship date prompted questions about possible supply constraints
ahead of the holiday season.
Investors and fans have viewed the 10th-anniversary iPhone
launch as an opportunity for Apple to refresh a smartphone
lineup that had lagged the competition in new features.
Last year the company’s revenue declined when many consumers
rejected the iPhone 7 as being too similar to the iPhone 6.
The new Apple Watch for the first time will be able to make
calls and access the internet without the customer carrying an
iPhone – a major upgrade that one analyst predicted would
more than double watch sales.
The iPhone X has wireless charging, an infrared camera and
hardware for facial recognition, which replaces the fingerprint
sensor for unlocking the phone. The home B.utton is also gone,
and users instead tap the device to wake it up.
Apple normally ships new products within a week or two of
announcing them, though the company said the later date was
consistent with earlier guidance to investors.
“It’s great to have a product but we’d have liked it sooner
rather than later, more like the beginning of October or mid-
October,” said Kim Forrest, senior equity research analyst at
Fort Pitt Capital Group in Pittsburgh.
Apple shares closed down 0.4 percent. They had traded as much
as 1 percent higher during the launch event before reversing
course. The shares are up almost 40 percent on the year.
Tim Ghriskey, chief investment officer of Solaris Asset
Management in New York, said he was not worried about the
ship date and liked the new phones features, but also flagged a
lack of surprises.
“It’s sell on the news,” he said. “They didn’t talk about the
evolution of Apple beyond the iPhone and into artificial
intelligence.”
The screen on the iPhone X is about the size of the current
iPhone 7 plus, though the phone is smaller. It features richer
colors thanks to a new screen technology called OLED that
other vendors are also rolling out.

3 Boko Haram Members Arrested In Ajao Estate, Isolo, Lagos [Photo]

Three suspected members of the Boko
Haram sect have been arrested in Ajao
Estate area of Lagos. The suspects were
arrested by members of the Hausa
Community in Lagos.
The suspected terrorists were hiding among some Hausa
acquaintances before they were fished out by the leaders in the
area, according to an Islamic cleric, Mohammed Abdullahi, who
spoke yesterday during the Isolo Townhall meeting organised by
the Lagos State acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi.
The townhall meeting was between the stakeholders in Area D
Command and the police held in Isolo.
The Cleric said, “A lot of people think Boko Haram issue is
just about the Northeast, but they are mistaken. We have been
arresting fleeing Boko Haram members in Lagos. I do not know
if it is as a result of the proximity to the airport.
Most of the escapee Boko Haram members who come to Lagos
have been arrested in Ajao Estate. Just three weeks ago, we
arrested three of them who ran from Borno State.We have a
way of identifying them. The Seriki Hausa in Ajao Estate has
the contact of all the local government chairmen in Borno State.
That way, we usually know those Boko Haram elements who
have fled the area to other parts of the country.
“We have been doing this since 2014 and we have been working
in collaboration with the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Borno.
Once we identify them, we contact the JTF and they come and
arrest them.
Reacting to Abdullahi’s disclosure, Edgal assured that the police
would verify the claims by the cleric because there were serious
security issues.
He urged residents to be more vigilant, noting that Lagos
cannot be isolated from security challenges in other parts of the
country.
“We all know that Lagos is the melting pot of the country.
Because Lagos is functioning, we are getting influx of people at
astronomical rate,” he said.

Traffic Problem As Water Floods Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway After Heavy Rainfall

There is a heavy traffic gridlock on the
Ladipo axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta
expressway as the road was flooded
after a heavy downpour Monday
morning.
After a heavy rainfall on Monday, the Lagos-Abeokuta
expressway witnessed heavy traffic gridlock especially on the
Ladipo axis as the road was flooded.
According to Premium Times, the heavy rain, which fell on
some of the major parts of the state, began around 7 a.m, as
water flooded both sides of the road as road users lamented
the situation.
While speaking to a correspondent, a road user, Daniel Oluyemi,
said that many Lagosians spent most part of the day in the
traffic.
“I got into this traffic at about past 7 a.m. and I got to
Oshodi end of the road at 12 noon. Many people already have
their businesses and other plans damaged with what I experienced
today. I spent five hours in the traffic. It was pathetic.”
Chigozie Ogbu, another road user who identified himself as a
trader, lamented the state of the road and its effect on
people’s schedule.
“As it is now, I can’t do business again today. I have wasted
the better part of today in traffic. You should see how people
living around that part of the state are in a hurry to go home
quickly because the traffic situation will be uncontrollable in the
night,” he said.
When a correspondent visited the Ladipo spot again around 5
p.m. on Monday, the traffic situation had only improved slightly
as vehicles still struggled to move around the flooded parts of
the road.
A commercial bus driver, who identified himself simply as
Omo’ga, said that the situation disrupted his routine movement
too.

“Ordinarily, I take passengers from Oshodi to Sango like four
to five times daily. Today, I am struggling with the second trip.
The traffic is terrible; I will simply go and park the vehicle and
rest until tomorrow,” he said.
“Many of our people (fellow drivers) are struck in traffic on
different parts of the road. It takes courage to ply this road
as it is now,” another commercial driver who declined to have
his name in print explained.
Some commuters who spoke with our correspondent however
lamented the sharp increase in transport fare.
“Today from Sango to Oshodi, I paid N500. On a very good
day, that trip would cost me N150 or, at worst, N200,” Ken
Ayadi, a commuter told our correspondent.
“Already, I spent the money I would ordinarily expend on
transport fare for about two days this morning alone. The
government should do something about the road. The flood is
scary,” another trader, Titilayo Tomori, explained.
